The project

84 social homes around a courtyard that gets four hours of June sun, because the south block steps down to let it in.

The site is a former container yard on the edge of Nordhavn. The local plan allowed seven storeys on all four sides. We kept the height on the north, where it shades only a road, and brought the south block down to three and four storeys so the courtyard gets sun.

Every flat is dual-aspect: living rooms face the street, bedrooms face the courtyard. Access decks on the courtyard side replace corridors, which saved 640 m² of heated area and gives every front door a place to leave a bike and a chair.

The upper floors are cross-laminated timber on a concrete ground floor. Exposed timber ceilings inside, larch cladding outside, untreated, left to go silver.
